The Gobir Development Association (GDA) has strongly condemned the ongoing attacks and killings of Hausa people by bandits in the Gobir region of Sokoto State. In a press conference held in Kano on Monday, GDA spokesperson Alhaji Ilyasu Yusuf expressed deep frustration over the escalating violence and called for immediate action from both the Federal and Sokoto State governments.
Yusuf highlighted the recent kidnapping and murder of the late Sarki Gobir as a particularly egregious example of the violence that has plagued the area. He warned that the community’s patience is wearing thin and stressed the urgency of the situation.
“We demand that the Federal and Sokoto State Governments strengthen security measures in Sokoto East and Sabon Birni Local Government Areas,” Yusuf said. He also called for the return of the late Sarki Gobir’s body so that it can be given a proper and respectful burial.
The GDA’s statement included a call for sustained military operations against the bandits responsible for the violence. Yusuf also urged for support and relief efforts for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who have been affected by the unrest.
The GDA’s appeals underscore the dire need for enhanced security and humanitarian assistance in the region as the community grapples with the consequences of continued banditry and violence.
