The celebrations for Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary began on Sunday with an inter-denominational church service at the National Christian Centre in Abuja. Leading the government delegation was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, accompanied by distinguished guests, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the nation’s Service Chiefs.
In his address, Akume expressed a strong sense of optimism about Nigeria’s future under President Bola Tinubu, affirming that hope remains alive for the nation. He envisioned Nigeria as a potential leader in both Africa and the global arena, aspiring to be the most successful and prosperous country.
Echoing these sentiments, the Archbishop of Abuja, Most Rev. Michael Akinwale, delivered a sermon that underscored the importance of hope. He articulated his dream for Nigeria to reclaim its status as a leading nation, emphasizing the need for unity and resilience among its citizens. “Today, September 29, I have a dream that this nation, Nigeria, will be great again. I have a dream that Nigeria will rise again. I have a dream that Nigeria will be a pacesetter for industrialisation in Africa. I have a dream that all Nigerians will dwell in plenty,” he declared.
Akume also shared his aspirations, stating, “There is hope. I have a dream too, that this country, under Asiwaju, will become the most blessed, most successful, and prosperous in Africa and the world.”
Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged Nigerians to remain patient and hopeful, emphasizing that the journey toward prosperity has just begun. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but maintained that Nigeria’s brightest days are on the horizon. “As we celebrate today, let us also acknowledge the challenges we face. Yes, the road ahead may be bumpy; yes, there will be setbacks; but together, united in our faith and love for Nigeria, we will prevail. Our journey to become a prosperous nation is just beginning, and I urge each of you to be patient, to hold on to hope, and to believe that change is not only possible but inevitable. Together, with unwavering belief, we will build a nation that our children and generations to come will be proud of.”
