Victor Boniface’s decisive 72nd-minute header clinched a 2-1 victory for Bayer Leverkusen against Eintracht Frankfurt at home. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig surged to the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Mainz.
The match saw Omar Marmoush give Frankfurt an early lead, but Robert Andrich equalized for Leverkusen midway through the first half. Boniface later secured the win with a second-half header.
Leverkusen had a chance to take the lead early when Amine Adli was brought down in the box, awarding Boniface a penalty. However, the Nigerian’s weak, central effort was easily saved by Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. Minutes later, the referee awarded Frankfurt a penalty after Andrich made light contact with Marmoush’s foot. Marmoush confidently converted, smashing a low shot to the left, putting the visitors ahead in the 16th minute.
Despite his earlier mistake, Andrich redeemed himself in the 25th minute with a brilliant one-touch goal, linking up with Adli and Martin Terrier to draw the score level.
Boniface made up for his missed penalty, heading in a deflected cross from substitute Florian Wirtz to seal the comeback and keep Leverkusen in the race.
Elsewhere, RB Leipzig earned a 2-0 victory over Mainz, briefly placing them at the top of the Bundesliga ahead of Bayern Munich’s clash with Stuttgart. Leipzig’s win was fueled by Xavi Simons’ solo effort and Willi Orban’s rebound goal from a Lois Openda cross.
In other action, Freiburg continued their strong form, securing a 3-1 win over Augsburg, while Borussia Moenchengladbach triumphed 3-2 over Heidenheim, thanks to Tim Kleindienst’s brace. Hoffenheim also returned to winning ways, defeating Bochum 3-1, leaving Bochum stranded at the bottom of the table with just one point from seven matches.
