Despite her initial excitement, Simi’s plans were derailed, and her anxiety further complicated her ability to maintain a steady job. When asked if she was homeless, she admitted, “I’m working on it.”
• Peter’s Story: Peter, who arrived in Canada in December 2023, initially relied on his father for financial support. However, tragedy struck when his father suffered a stroke, rendering him unable to continue supporting Peter. As a result, Peter now faces homelessness, with his primary concern being finding shelter. “Shelter. They help me the most,” he said.
• Common Challenges: Both individuals highlighted the difficulties immigrants face in Canada, including financial instability, housing challenges, and personal health struggles. Simi’s experience points to the added pressure of high living costs and mental health issues, while Peter’s situation underscores the vulnerability that can arise from unexpected family crises.
