Port Harcourt, March 2, 2025 — Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has addressed the people of Rivers State following the recent Supreme Court verdict on the state’s political disputes, assuring residents of his administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law despite disagreements with the judgment.

“We disagree with the rulings, but as a law-abiding government, we will respect and implement the court’s decisions,” Fubara declared, emphasizing his administration’s dedication to constitutional governance and due process since assuming office.

The governor revealed that his legal team expects to receive the certified true copy of the judgment by Friday, March 7, 2025. “Once we have studied the details, we will execute the directives without hesitation to steer the state forward,” he assured.

In response to the outlawing of caretaker committees, Fubara ordered an immediate transition in local government leadership. “I direct the Heads of Personnel Management (HPMs) to take over the administration of the 23 Local Government Councils until fresh elections are conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC),” he stated. Outgoing chairmen must formally hand over power to the HPMs by Monday, March 3, 2025.

Acknowledging the state’s turbulent political climate, the governor urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding. “Despite these challenging times, I encourage everyone to carry on with their daily activities as we work tirelessly to fulfill our responsibilities to the people of Rivers State,” he said.

Governor Fubara closed his broadcast with a call for unity and resilience: “Thank you, and may God bless Rivers State.”
