The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has issued an urgent plea to the Inspector General of Police, demanding immediate intervention in the search for their Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Obasi Lawson, who was violently attacked and abducted in Azumini, Abia State.
The brutal ambush erupted on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, around 7 p.m., when gunmen intercepted Chief Lawson’s SUV. The assailants unleashed gunfire, killing his driver, Mr. Anayo Ukwu, and his special assistant, Mazi Confidence Chijioke, on the spot. Shockingly, the three police officers assigned to protect the group reportedly fled the scene, leaving the defenseless victims at the mercy of their attackers.
Mazi Confidence Chijioke, a pillar of PETROAN, served as Vice Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter, Managing Director of Dozzman Filling Stations, and a driving force within the association. His tragic death dealt a devastating blow, especially as he prepared to unveil a multimillion-naira filling station in Port Harcourt.
Addressing journalists with a heavy heart, PETROAN’s National President, Dr. Billy Gillis Harry, mourned Chijioke’s loss, describing it as “an injury too grievous to endure.”
As the search for Chief Obasi Lawson intensifies, PETROAN has demanded a thorough investigation into the actions — and inaction — of the police officers who escaped the attack. The association insists on full accountability and urges the Inspector General of Police to deploy every available resource to locate and rescue Chief Lawson alive.
PETROAN also expressed deep condolences to the families of Mazi Confidence Chijioke and Mr. Anayo Ukwu, as well as to the PETROAN Rivers State leadership, led by Sir Francis Dimkpa.
The association’s call echoes through the nation, as they vow not to relent until justice prevails and Chief Obasi Lawson returns safely to his family and the organization he served with unwavering dedication.
