Christian leaders in Plateau State are preparing for a major protest in response to the ongoing violence and killings plaguing the region. The “2nd Peace Walk Against Continuous Killings” will take place on Monday, April 21, 2025, with participants gathering at the PRTV Roundabout Junction in Jos at 9:00 am.
The protest follows recent tragic events in Bassa and Bokkos Local Government Areas, where over 80 lives were lost between March 27 and April 2, 2025. In Bassa, more than 30 villagers were killed by gunmen in the early hours of Monday, while last week saw over 50 lives claimed in multiple attacks in Bokkos. These senseless and unprovoked killings have sparked widespread outrage.
Dr. Gideon ParaMallam, a member of the planning committee and President of the Gideon and Funmi Peace Foundation, confirmed the protest, emphasizing that it is a call for peace, justice, and security for all citizens in Plateau State and across Nigeria. The protest aims to demand an end to the continuous attacks and to seek justice for those who have lost their lives.
The event is being organized by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State Chapter, and all Christians are invited to join the protest dressed in black, red, and white—colors representing mourning (black), the demand to end the killings (red), and peaceful resistance to impunity (white). The protest will culminate in a gathering at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, where the collective grief and demands will be presented to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu through Plateau State Governor Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
This protest represents the Church’s unwavering commitment to standing against violence and injustice, calling on the government to ensure peace and security for all.
