-Orji Kalu Rallies Abia APC Members Ahead of 2027 Elections
–Says South East Must Join Nigeria’s Mainstream Politics to Reap Benefits
Former Abia State Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on the South East region to embrace Nigeria’s mainstream political structure, warning that missing out would cost the region vital benefits.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Kalu disclosed that President Bola Tinubu was unhappy with the 4% votes he garnered from the entire Abia State during the 2023 presidential election. He expressed shock at the poor performance, given the array of political heavyweights within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
“For example, in 2019 when I joined the APC, President Buhari made 68% in our constituency. But President Tinubu came back to make only 4% in the entire Abia in 2023. He was not happy with the political numbers of Abia,” Kalu wrote.
Kalu emphasized the importance of unity among APC members, urging them to close ranks and deliver victory for the party in Abia by 2027. He explained that the stakeholders’ meeting he hosted at his Abuja residence was aimed at mobilizing support and fostering cohesion within the party, clarifying that the meeting had nothing to do with Governor Alex Otti or his performance.
“I did not speak against Governor Alex Otti or his performance. I don’t speak about my successors in public. Only the electorate can decide the fate of their leaders,” he clarified.
Kalu stressed that the South East must strategically align with the rest of the country’s political direction to secure national benefits.
“The South East as a whole has to belong where other Nigerians are sitting,” he added.
The Senator’s appeal comes at a critical time as the APC positions itself for stronger showings in the 2027 elections.
