Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brig. Gen. Bello Abdullahi (Rtd), reassured the public that the state remains largely safe despite occasional incursions by armed bandits from neighboring Zamfara and Kaduna states. The bandits, who typically target food supplies and livestock, have reportedly attacked areas like Mashegu Local Government Area to steal food, which they either sell or consume.

Abdullahi emphasized that both the state government and security agencies are collaborating to prevent the bandits from escaping with their stolen goods. He noted that he had recently visited the Nigerian Army Commander in Kontagora to discuss internal security measures and strengthen security at strategic points across the state.

The Commissioner further assured residents that the governor-led administration is fully committed to safeguarding lives and property. “We will make it extremely difficult for these bandits to leave the state with either stolen food or livestock,” he stated, expressing confidence that security forces would work together to apprehend the bandits and restore peace.

Abdullahi also mentioned plans to organize a press briefing to provide the public with an update on his ministry’s efforts to combat insecurity in the state.
