Manchester United’s recent goalless draw against newly promoted Leeds United marked the beginning of their pre-season preparations, immediately exposing areas requiring significant development. Following a disappointing 2024-25 campaign—their worst in Premier League history, finishing 15th and missing Champions League qualification—the pressure to improve is palpable.
Manager Ruben Amorim, speaking to MUTV, candidly acknowledged the team’s shortcomings, particularly highlighting a “lack of pace, especially in the middle of the park.” This deficiency, he noted, impeded their ability to effectively advance the ball and maintain control, especially when attempting high presses. Despite the inclusion of new signing Matheus Cunha in the starting lineup, the Red Devils struggled to impress.
Amorim, however, framed the match as a beneficial “first test against a Premier League team,” stressing that it provided crucial insights for the squad. He asserted the collective commitment to enhancing game speed and fine-tuning tactical details, stating, “As a group, we have a lot to improve… so, yeah, we are going to improve.” The team will continue their preparations with their next fixture against West Ham United on July 26.
