The Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (YSDM) has urged President Bola Tinubu to revisit the case against Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, and remove the “wanted” tag placed on him by the Federal Government.
Speaking at a press conference on Friday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Ibadan, YSDM Deputy Leader (Homeland), Architect Opeoluwa Akinola, accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of illegally invading Igboho’s residence during the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Akinola, the raid led to the killing of Igboho’s aides, the arrest and detention of several relatives, and his eventual exile, where he was imprisoned for months. He added that Igboho’s bank accounts remain frozen, despite no concrete allegations of crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, or murder.
“Chief Sunday Adeyemo has vigorously and selflessly campaigned against the killing, maiming, raping, and kidnapping of Yoruba sons and daughters. The Tinubu-led government must clear his name and set him free,” Akinola stated.
The group stressed that their demand aligns with their larger vision of a “free and unfettered Yoruba Nation,” liberated from what they described as the “encumbrances, endemic corruption, and bankruptcy of the Nigerian state.”
