Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has urged the Anioma people of Delta State to openly embrace their Igbo identity and unite with their kinsmen across Eastern Nigeria to strengthen national cohesion.

Speaking in Asaba at a conference of the Unification Movement themed “Igbo Bu Ofu” (Igbos are One), held in partnership with the Ndi na Asu Bia Socio-Cultural Organisation, Nwoko commended the organisers for championing cultural and political unity among Igbo-speaking communities.

The senator stressed that reclaiming a collective Igbo identity remained vital for political strength, cultural revival, and correcting years of identity distortion. He also reaffirmed his long-standing advocacy for the creation of an Anioma State out of Delta North, insisting that Anioma’s roots are firmly Igbo.

“There is no argument about our Igbo identity. I understand history very well. I have a degree in history. I know the migration of the Igbo people, and I know clearly that we, the Anioma, are Igbo,” Nwoko declared.

He challenged Anioma people to discard divisive narratives that separated them from their brothers across the Niger and to embrace a united front for progress.

The Igbo Unification Movement and Ndi na Asu Bia have in recent years emerged as leading advocacy platforms promoting cultural, historical, and political solidarity among Igbo-speaking communities, including Anioma in Delta, Igbanke in Edo, and other border regions.
