Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has reportedly been flown abroad for emergency medical attention following a sudden health complication.

A top government source confirmed the development on Sunday, describing the minister’s condition as “very serious,” though noting that he is currently receiving intensive medical care overseas.

“It’s very serious. He may survive, but he can’t get back to work again,” the source said, disclosing that the situation has raised concern within the Presidency.

The source further revealed that President Bola Tinubu has commenced discreet consultations to identify a possible replacement for the minister due to the gravity of his condition.

“President Bola Tinubu is looking for a replacement urgently,” the source stated, citing the growing pressure on fiscal and foreign exchange management. “May God guide us all. This running after dollars is another matter.”

Reports suggest that Edun’s health setback may have been triggered by exhaustion and stress associated with his demanding schedule and intense workload. Senior government officials are said to be operating under heavy strain, often working long hours with little rest and irregular meals.

Edun, a trusted ally of President Tinubu, has played a key role in shaping the administration’s economic reform agenda, particularly in stabilizing Nigeria’s fiscal and monetary policies amid rising inflation and foreign exchange challenges.

As of press time, neither the Ministry of Finance nor the Presidency has issued an official statement regarding the development.
