The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has rolled out a new waste management system set to begin Monday, November 17, 2025, in a renewed push to sanitize Abuja and strengthen environmental upkeep across the city.

The decision followed an FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by the Minister, Nyesom Wike. Briefing journalists, the Coordinator of the Abuja Municipal Management Council (AMMC), Chief Felix Amechi Obuah, disclosed that the committee approved new contractors to handle waste collection and management throughout the territory.

He said the approval also covered the purchase of waste treatment plants and maintenance of supervisory utility vehicles, adding that the new system would significantly boost sanitation efforts.
“Residents should expect a cleaner city,” Obuah assured.

In a related development, the Head of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, announced that the committee approved N111,913,176 for emergency waste evacuation in the Dogon Gada community, focusing on clearing open dumps, waterways, and streams within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Also speaking, the FCT Transportation Secretary, Hon. Chinedum Elechi, revealed that funds were approved for printing services for the Directorate of Road Transport Services, alongside maintenance of 34 old traffic lights and installation of three new ones across the city.

The Chief of Staff to the Minister, Hon. Chidi Amadi, reaffirmed Wike’s commitment to restoring order and cleanliness in the capital city.
“The Minister is deeply concerned about waste management because it directly affects the cleanliness of the city,” he said.
