President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday suspended his planned trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, as he awaits crucial security briefings on the abduction of Kebbi schoolgirls and the attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Kwara State.

His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the decision in a statement issued in Abuja.

Tinubu, who had been scheduled to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa before proceeding to Angola for the 7th AU-EU Summit, abruptly halted his departure following reports of renewed violence in the two states.

According to the statement, the President ordered the deployment of additional security operatives to Eruku and the entire Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. He also directed the police to hunt down the bandits responsible for the church attack.

The statement added that Tinubu is awaiting reports from Vice President Kashim Shettima—who visited Kebbi on his behalf—as well as updates from the police and Department of State Services on the Kwara incident.

Tinubu further reiterated his instruction to security agencies to rescue the 24 abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi and ensure their safe return home.
