Afrobeats star Stanley Omah Didia, famously known as Omah Lay, has sparked nationwide debate after declaring that prayers alone will not rescue Nigeria from its current crises.
The singer, posting on his X handle on Thursday, criticised the growing reliance on religious appeals, insisting that meaningful progress requires decisive action from citizens.
“No Jesus, no Allah, no prayer is saving us. Nothing changes until we wake TF up,” he wrote.
His remarks come as Christian and Islamic clerics intensify calls for prayers amid rising insecurity and economic hardship across the country. The recent terrorist attack on a church in Kwara State and the kidnap of schoolgirls in Kebbi State have also triggered strong reactions from celebrities including Don Jazzy, Davido, Falz and Mr Macaroni, who urged authorities to take swift, concrete steps.
Singer Yemi Alade, in a separate post on Wednesday, rejected suggestions for foreign intervention, arguing that “African problems need African solutions, not new problem.”
Omah Lay’s comments continue to fuel conversations about citizen responsibility, governance failures, and the limits of spirituality in addressing Nigeria’s deepening challenges.
