Lagos State Government has firmly dismissed a viral flyer warning of alleged rising kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway, describing it as recycled fake news intended to mislead the public.
The online message, which surfaced again on social media, claimed the state government issued an alert advising residents to avoid late-night travel, use alternative routes, and beware of criminals allegedly operating with commercial buses using the ‘one chance’ method.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile, denounced the claims on Friday, stressing that the state had debunked the misinformation several times. Posting on his official X handle, he cautioned residents against falling for the false alarm.
“Good morning Lagos, please beware of this fake news circulating again! We have addressed it before, but those spreading false information continue to recycle it. Kindly disregard this notification,” Akosile wrote.
The government urged residents to depend solely on verified updates from official state and security channels and to remain alert while commuting across the city.
