Abakaliki FC Chairman, Senator Obinna Ogba, has challenged his players to raise their game after the club stumbled to a 1–1 home draw against Calabar Rovers in their opening match of the new season.
The Rice Boys, who struggled to impose themselves in front of their home fans, saw immediate consequences as head coach Ifeanyi Onyedika was suspended following the underwhelming result.
Ogba, addressing the squad, urged them to restore pride and push harder on the pitch. He reminded them of the unwavering support of the state’s sports-loving governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, and charged them to justify that confidence.
“If you know how deeply our sports-friendly governor loves and cares for you all, you will improve your performance. Sit up and make our governor and the entire Ebonyians proud,” Ogba told the players.
Abakaliki FC will attempt to bounce back when they face Akwa United on Sunday at the Uyo Township Stadium.
