Nigerian singer CKay has shattered a major global music record, becoming the first Nigerian artist to score 1 billion Spotify streams with a solo track. His 2019 breakout hit, Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah), surged past the billion-stream mark, cementing his place among Africa’s most influential music exports.

The feat also makes CKay the first solo male African artist to reach the milestone. Celebrating the achievement on X, the thrilled star wrote: “First solo Nigerian song to cross 1 billion streams. Grateful to God and the people involved in this historic success! Thank you for streaming.”

CKay joins a growing list of African artists breaking boundaries on the global stage. Wizkid became the first African artist to enter Spotify’s 1 billion streams club in 2017 with Drake’s One Dance, which holds the Guinness World Record as the first song ever to hit 1 billion streams on the platform.

Rema later became the first African lead artist to cross the 1 billion mark with the Selena Gomez-assisted remix of Calm Down. South African star Tyla also made history as the first African female artist to hit the milestone with her global smash Water.

CKay’s latest achievement reinforces Afrobeats’ unstoppable rise and Nigeria’s expanding footprint in the global music industry.
