A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aisha Yesufu, has issued a stern warning ahead of the 2027 general election, declaring that she will actively work against any presidential ticket that presents Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as a vice presidential nominee.
In a video circulating widely on social media, the socio-political activist insisted that Obi remains the strongest contender among opposition figures and should not be relegated to a deputy role in the next election cycle.
Yesufu vowed to withdraw her support from any alliance that positions the former Anambra State governor as a running mate, stressing that such a move would undermine merit and competence.
“I’m giving you people my word. If Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket,” she said. “In my little capacity, I will work against them even if I don’t support any other candidates. Why are we always asking the best to be the second?”
Her remarks come amid ongoing political realignments within the ADC, a party recently adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. Obi, who recently joined the ADC, is among the aspirants believed to be eyeing the party’s presidential ticket.
However, indications suggest that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may clinch the ADC’s presidential nomination, with speculation that Obi could be considered as his running mate—a prospect Yesufu has now openly rejected.
