Former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Alhaji Lawal Daura, has formally signalled his intention to contest the Katsina State governorship election in 2027, citing worsening insecurity and what he described as weak governance in the state.
Daura disclosed his ambition during an interview with DCL Hausa, saying he had concluded wide-ranging consultations and would soon announce the political party on which he plans to run.
He said his decision was driven by the escalating security challenges confronting Katsina State, coupled with persistent calls from key stakeholders who urged him to step into active partisan politics. According to him, the deteriorating security situation made it impossible to ignore the appeals.
Daura said he initially hesitated but later accepted the call after weighing the circumstances surrounding the request.
He noted that he would not have accepted the challenge if a more capable individual was available to lead the state at this critical time, stressing that his decision was based on a sense of duty rather than personal ambition.
The former DSS boss confirmed that consultations on his political platform had been concluded and assured that the party would be unveiled at the appropriate time.
Commenting on the current administration, Daura said it had played its role and should step aside, arguing that Katsina State now requires new leadership to confront its security and governance challenges head-on.
