A pro-democracy organisation has intensified pressure on Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to resign as the impeachment process against him gathers momentum at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The call followed the formal submission of an impeachment notice reportedly endorsed by 26 of the 27 lawmakers in the Assembly. The notice was presented during Thursday’s plenary by the House Majority Leader, Major Jack, who read out eight allegations of gross misconduct levelled against the governor.
Reacting on Saturday, the National Vanguard for Accountable and Transparent Democracy accused Governor Fubara of deepening the political crisis in the state through actions it described as confrontational and dismissive of legislative authority.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Wisdom Abah, the group alleged that the governor had reneged on peace agreements brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end the prolonged standoff between the executive and the legislature.
The group further faulted the governor for what it called a sustained refusal to engage with the Assembly, citing his failure to present the 2026 budget as evidence of disregard for constitutional and legislative processes.
Warning that the impasse could worsen governance and stability in Rivers State, the organisation urged Governor Fubara to step aside in the interest of peace and democratic order.
