A former media aide to late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress requires a political heavyweight of Nyesom Wike’s stature to consolidate its strength.
Ahmad described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory as bold, strategic, and unapologetically decisive, arguing that such traits are critical for the party’s political relevance.
He made the assertion while reacting to Wike’s recent declaration that only President Bola Tinubu has the authority to remove him from office. Speaking on Sunday in Obi-Akpor Local Government Area, Wike said the president could sack him when he no longer has anything to offer.
The minister, responding to critics calling for his removal, urged the people of Rivers State to take pride in his performance and achievements in Abuja.
Reacting via X, Ahmad wrote that the APC “needs a political heavyweight like Nyesom Wike—very bold, strategic, and unapologetically decisive,” reinforcing his position that Wike’s political style remains an asset rather than a liability.
