The Nenadi Usman–led faction of the Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State has formally dissolved its structure and merged into the African Democratic Congress (ADC), intensifying opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The faction’s chairman, Gogo Wellington, announced the decision on Monday during a press conference attended by party leaders and stakeholders in Port Harcourt.
Wellington directed all LP members in Rivers State, alongside supporters of the Obidient Movement, to transfer their loyalty to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, who has reportedly aligned with a coalition of opposition figures seeking to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027. The coalition has adopted the ADC as its political platform.
Addressing supporters, Wellington urged LP faithful across the state’s 23 local government areas to immediately enlist in the ADC and rally behind Obi’s leadership.
He cited the country’s worsening economic conditions and escalating insecurity as compelling reasons for the political shift, warning that Nigeria has reached a critical moment that demands urgent collective action.
Wellington also appealed to members of the Obidient Movement to embrace the opposition coalition, describing it as a vehicle for national rescue and renewed hope.
