Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, declaring that young people will remain central to the state’s economic growth and governance structure.
The governor made the declaration on Friday while receiving members of the youth wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Government House in Kano.
Speaking during the visit, Yusuf stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the active participation of young people. He maintained that his administration has deliberately prioritised youth inclusion as a strategic driver of economic expansion and institutional stability.
According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor described the current year as one dedicated to youth development, underscoring his resolve to deepen empowerment initiatives across sectors.
“Our administration keeps empowering youths and giving them opportunities through government appointments,” Yusuf said.
He disclosed that nearly 40 per cent of political appointments in the state have been allocated to young people. These appointments, he noted, cut across key positions including commissioners, directors-general and managing directors, reflecting what he described as a practical demonstration of inclusive governance.
Yusuf argued that entrusting young people with leadership responsibilities strengthens institutional capacity, injects innovation into public service and accelerates economic productivity. He added that youth participation in policy formulation and decision-making remains critical to building a resilient and forward-looking Kano State.
Earlier, the APC National Youth Leader, Mr Dayo Israel, commended the governor for supporting the hosting of the Youth Progressive Summit at the Kano Government House.
Israel described Yusuf as a leader who actively promotes youth-driven development and pledged sustained support from the party’s youth wing for programmes and policies aimed at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of young people in the state.
The visit underscored growing political engagement between the Kano State Government and youth stakeholders, as the administration intensifies efforts to position young people as key actors in governance and economic transformation.
