The Nigerian government has raised an alarm over alleged attempts by Jupiter Limited to launch a smear campaign against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, the firm was reportedly orchestrating the campaign ahead of President Tinubu’s planned state visit to the United Kingdom. The allegation was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by presidential spokesperson Sunday Dare via X.

Jupiter Limited had claimed that the federal government revoked its lithium mining project and reassigned it to a Chinese company. However, the government dismissed the claims as false, explaining that the company’s mineral titles were revoked after it failed to pay statutory annual service fees totaling N2.49 billion.

“Jupiter… peddled falsehoods by claiming that its titles were revoked in favour of a Chinese firm. This is a complete fabrication,” the statement said.

The government emphasized that the revocation was carried out strictly in accordance with mining regulations, after due notices were issued, and warned the public against attempts to undermine reforms in the sector.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria cannot and will not be intimidated or blackmailed into abandoning reforms by the antics of any individual or company,” the statement added.
