The operation, conducted under Operation Hadin Kai in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force, was aimed at repelling an attempted attack by suspected ISWAP fighters on military positions in the area.
Security sources said the insurgents advanced using a combination of drone surveillance and coordinated ground assault tactics but were met with heavy resistance from troops who responded with superior firepower.
The troops were said to have successfully foiled the infiltration attempt, forcing the attackers to retreat after sustaining significant casualties.
Despite the success recorded, a few soldiers reportedly sustained minor injuries during the encounter and have since been stabilised.
The development underscores intensified military offensives in Borno State, one of the epicentres of Nigeria’s prolonged battle against insurgency in the Northeast.
Military authorities have continued to sustain pressure on terrorist groups operating in the region, with a focus on degrading their operational capacity and restoring stability across affected communities.
