The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State, Don Norman Obinna, has called on party members and supporters of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, across the South-East to actively participate in the ongoing online e-registration exercise to strengthen his chances ahead of future elections.
Obinna warned that Peter Obi may struggle to secure victory in a presidential primary if he fails to garner significant support through party membership and voting strength.
He made the remarks on Saturday in Umuahia while speaking as a special guest at the inauguration of executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) for Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South Local Government Areas.
The ADC chairman expressed concern over membership registration figures, noting that while Abia State has recorded about 400,000 registered members on the ADC platform, Adamawa State is reportedly approaching one million registrations.
“It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be President; the question should be how do we deliver Peter Obi,” he said.
He further questioned the party’s preparedness, stating that if a primary election were conducted immediately, it remains uncertain whether Obi would secure enough support to win.
Obinna urged COPDEM members and ADC stakeholders to intensify sensitisation efforts, promote accountability, and advocate for quality leadership across the country.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of COPDEM in Abia State, Prince Solomon, alongside a House of Representatives aspirant for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Ogbonna Abarikwu, encouraged Nigerians to reject poor governance and demand better leadership.
