The remains of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, have arrived in Abuja ahead of her burial.

Hajiya Umma El-Rufai passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday, March 27, 2026, following a brief illness.

Her grandson, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, who represents Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, confirmed the arrival of the body and announced funeral arrangements in a statement shared on his X handle on Sunday.

“This is to notify the general public that the remains of our grandmother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, have safely landed in Abuja,” he stated.

He added that the Janazah (funeral) prayer would be held at the National Mosque Abuja at 1:00 pm, after which she would be laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery.

Since news of her passing broke, sympathisers and political figures have continued to visit the El-Rufai family residence to offer condolences.

Among those who paid their respects are the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda; Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umar Radda; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi; former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami; and Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
