Former Kano State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect.
Kwankwaso made this known in a press statement dated March 29, 2026, explaining that his decision was driven by the need for a strategic political realignment in response to the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s political landscape.
The former governor expressed appreciation to the NNPP for the opportunity to serve as its National Leader and presidential candidate during the 2023 general elections. He described his exit from the party as a difficult but necessary decision.
According to him, the current direction of national politics requires alignment with a platform that offers a more effective path toward achieving meaningful change in the country.
“I wish to formally announce my resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) with immediate effect,” he stated.
Although he did not immediately disclose his next political move, the development is expected to reshape alliances ahead of future elections.
