Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Face Idibia, has expressed strong confidence in the future of Afrobeats, dismissing concerns that the genre may decline on the global stage.
Speaking during a recent interview with Yaw on Wazobia FM Lagos, the “African Queen” crooner insisted that Afrobeats continues to evolve and remains globally relevant.
According to him, the genre’s strength lies in the constant emergence of young talents, whom he described as the driving force behind its growth and sustainability.
“Afrobeats can never die,” he said. “If you listen to some of the young Afrobeats artists now, you will agree with me that the genre is in safe hands.”
The veteran singer also highlighted the creativity of rising stars, pointing to a recent remake of his classic song If Love Is A Crime by fast-rising artist Fola as proof of the genre’s evolution.
“I really loved it—soft, smooth vocals. It is amazing. The present crop of artists have special flows. I love their styles,” he added.
2Face’s remarks come amid ongoing conversations about the global trajectory of Afrobeats, as Nigerian artists continue to gain international recognition and influence.
