Veteran Nollywood actor, lawyer and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo has issued a stern warning, declaring that any move by Peter Obi to leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) would confirm suspicions of a covert alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Okonkwo made the assertion during an interview on Channels Television, where he reacted to growing speculation that Obi could exit the party if he fails to secure the ADC’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking emphatically, Okonkwo insisted that any aspirant who abandons the party amid its internal struggles must be acting against the collective interest of the coalition.
“If he leaves, will he now be a mobile squadron?” Okonkwo queried. “Any presidential aspirant in ADC who sees what everyone is going through and still leaves is a ‘mobile squatter.’ That’s one.”
He went further, leveling a more serious allegation.
“Two, such a person is working for Tinubu. Because if coalition leaders are enduring this crisis together, what can one person achieve by walking away? Anybody who leaves is compromised and working for Tinubu—whoever that person is,” he declared.
Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, remains one of the top contenders for the ADC ticket, alongside political heavyweights such as Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
Amid the rising tension within the opposition coalition, Atiku recently struck a conciliatory tone during an interview on Arise News, pledging to support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential flagbearer, whether through consensus or primary elections.
Okonkwo’s remarks, however, have intensified the political temperature, drawing a clear line within the opposition and raising fresh questions about loyalty, unity, and strategy ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
