New Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has outlined three major priorities as he prepares to take charge at Stamford Bridge — hard work, building the right culture, and winning trophies.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Alonso said he is determined to shape a disciplined and ambitious squad capable of competing for silverware.

Chelsea appointed the former Liverpool F.C. midfielder after the club’s FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City F.C. at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.

The 44-year-old, who previously played for Real Madrid CF and managed Bayer 04 Leverkusen, will officially begin his new role on July 1, 2026, after signing a four-year contract with the Premier League side.

“There is great talent in the Chelsea squad, and it’ll be my great honour to lead it,” Alonso said.

“Now my focus is on hard work, the right culture and winning trophies.”
