Grief has spread across Oyo State following the killing of Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele in Oriire Local Government Area. Reports revealed that the teacher was killed by suspected bandits while still in captivity, deepening fears over the safety of the remaining victims.
A disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers surfaced online on Sunday and later circulated on Telegram. The footage reportedly showed the abducted teacher tied up and forced to speak before he was brutally murdered. The tragic incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for stronger action against rising kidnapping in Oyo State.
Residents, families and community members have continued to urge the Oyo State Government and security agencies to speed up rescue operations and secure the freedom of those still being held. The incident has also raised wider concerns about growing insecurity across Nigeria.
Confirming the killing, Governor Seyi Makinde’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Suleimon Olanrewaju, expressed condolences to the victim’s family. He assured the public that the government would continue using both military and peaceful approaches to rescue the remaining captives. He also confirmed that around six suspects connected to the Oyo school kidnapping had been arrested.
According to the government, some soldiers, Amotekun Corps members and local vigilantes lost their lives during rescue efforts after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices planted by the abductors. Injured security personnel are reportedly receiving treatment.
The Oyo school kidnapping began after gunmen invaded the school on May 15 and abducted the principal, teachers and students.
