By Babatunji Wusu – Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has accepted responsibility for the continued presence of cows roaming the streets of Abuja, offering an apology to residents while highlighting ongoing infrastructure projects across the capital city.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike acknowledged public concerns over the situation and assured residents that the administration remains committed to improving the city’s environment and infrastructure.

“I apologize that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja, I take responsibility,” the minister said.

Addressing broader development efforts, Wike explained that road projects undertaken by the FCT Administration are largely based on requests and recommendations from local communities. According to him, residents play an active role in identifying roads that are most important to their daily lives and economic activities.

The Abuja infrastructure projects are not limited to the city centre, he noted, but extend to satellite towns and rural communities. These projects cover road construction, water supply and housing developments for public officials.

“This projects are not only concentrated in the city centres but also in the satellite town. From roads to water, to residences of public officers,” Wike stated.

The minister also stressed that the construction of new roads has contributed to improved security across the territory. He explained that better road access has helped security agencies respond more effectively while also allowing residents easier access to their farmlands and communities.

“We don’t just stand and say let’s do these roads, the people appoint and nominate the road that they want to be of use to them and it helps in terms of reducing security and having access to their farm lands,” he added.

Wike further revealed that he would join President Bola Tinubu in commissioning several completed projects to mark the administration’s third anniversary. He said the Abuja infrastructure projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving living conditions and supporting development throughout the Federal Capital Territory.
