By Eppe Franklyne| Florentino Pérez has secured another four-year term as Real Madrid president after emerging victorious in the club’s election held on Sunday, extending a leadership era that has helped shape one of football’s most successful periods.
The election marked the first contested presidential race at Real Madrid in two decades. Pérez had previously been elected unopposed in 2009, 2013, 2017, 2021 and 2025. According to the club’s official television channel, he defeated challenger Enrique Riquelme, although the official voting figures had not been released at the time of reporting.
The outcome is expected to increase speculation surrounding a possible return for José Mourinho, who managed the Spanish giants between 2010 and 2013. Mourinho featured prominently in campaign materials linked to Pérez’s successful bid, fuelling fresh discussion about a potential second spell at the club.
Addressing supporters after his victory, Pérez reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the club’s winning tradition.
“We are going to keep working so that Real Madrid keeps winning more titles,” Pérez told supporters during a celebration that continued into the early hours of Monday.
The veteran football administrator, now 79, first became Real Madrid president in 2000 and remained in office until 2006. He returned to the position in 2009 and has since overseen one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Under his leadership, Real Madrid has captured seven European Cup titles, a remarkable achievement that has helped the club build its record total of 15 continental crowns. His latest victory ensures that the long-serving president will continue guiding the Spanish powerhouse as it seeks further domestic and international success in the years ahead.
