|By Adejumo Adekunle – The Jigawa State public holiday announced for Tuesday, June 16, 2026, will allow residents and civil servants to mark the beginning of the Islamic New Year, 1448 AH.
The state government confirmed the Jigawa State public holiday in a statement issued by the Head of the Civil Service, Alhaji Muhammad K. Dagaceri, and signed by the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service, Isma’ila Ibrahim Dutse.
Officials said the work-free day will enable residents to participate in activities commemorating the Islamic New Year and reflect on its spiritual significance.
Dagaceri urged citizens to use the occasion to pray for lasting peace, unity and prosperity across the state. He also encouraged residents to uphold Islamic teachings and emulate the character of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Furthermore, the government called on residents to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could threaten the peace and harmony currently enjoyed in the state.
The administration expressed optimism that the new Islamic year would strengthen moral values, promote peaceful coexistence and inspire collective progress among the people.
The Jigawa State public holiday forms part of efforts to encourage reflection, spiritual renewal and community development as Muslims begin the new Islamic calendar year.
