|By Chinwendu Nwani – The Zamfara banditry resurgence has drawn criticism from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which accused the Federal Government of failing to provide adequate protection for lives and property across affected communities.
In a statement issued in Gusau on Thursday, the party expressed concern over renewed attacks in Zurmi, Maradun and Anka local government areas. The NDC said the Zamfara banditry resurgence highlights the urgent need for stronger security measures and better leadership.
The party’s state chairman, Surajo Garba Maikatako, sympathised with residents affected by the attacks. He also mourned three police officers who died in an explosion along the Bagega-Anka road while carrying out their duties.
Furthermore, the NDC extended condolences to the Zamfara State Police Command and the families of the deceased Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers. The party described their deaths as tragic and called on security agencies to intensify efforts against criminal groups operating in the state.
Meanwhile, the party raised concerns over remarks reportedly made by the state governor during a BBC interview, in which he said he did not promise to end insecurity during his election campaign.
According to the NDC, the continued attacks on communities demonstrate the need for coordinated action by both federal and state authorities. The party urged government institutions and security agencies to work together to address the Zamfara banditry resurgence and restore public confidence.
