Morocco produced a spirited comeback to defeat Haiti 4-2 at the Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday, securing second place in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C and a spot in the knockout stage.
The match delivered plenty of excitement, particularly in a first half that produced four goals. Haiti made a dream start when an own goal from Yassine Bounou handed them an early advantage. However, Morocco responded quickly through Achraf Hakimi, who restored parity and settled the African side.
Haiti regained the lead thanks to a powerful effort from Wilson Isidor, putting pressure back on Morocco. Yet the Atlas Lions refused to back down and levelled the contest again before the break through Ismael Saibair, ensuring both teams entered half-time locked at 2-2.
The Morocco World Cup campaign gathered momentum in the second half as the team increased its attacking intensity. Their persistence paid off in the 78th minute when Soufiane Rahimi found the net to complete the comeback and give Morocco the lead for the first time in the match.
As Haiti pushed forward in search of another equaliser, Morocco took advantage of the extra space. Gessime Yassine added a fourth goal late in the game to seal an impressive victory and confirm qualification for the next round.
The result means the Morocco World Cup journey continues after finishing second behind Brazil in Group C. Morocco will now prepare for a challenging round of 32 encounter against the winners of Group F, currently led by the Netherlands.
For Haiti, the tournament ends without a victory despite making their first World Cup appearance in 52 years. While results did not go their way, the Caribbean nation will take valuable experience from its long-awaited return to football’s biggest stage.
