Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala hails African teams at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising their resilience and urging them to keep pushing for success. The WTO Director-General celebrated the achievements of African nations, saying their performances have made the continent proud.
Writing on her verified X account, Okonjo-Iweala congratulated Morocco and Egypt for reaching the next stage of the tournament. She also described Cape Verde as Africa’s standout team. Meanwhile, she commended DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana for battling bravely despite their elimination.
Furthermore, she said the teams had displayed determination and unity throughout the competition. She thanked them for raising Africa’s profile on the global stage and expressed hope that more success would follow in the tournament.
Okonjo-Iweala also turned her attention to Nigeria. She said it would be exciting to see the Super Eagles qualify for the next FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence that the team could return to football’s biggest stage.
