Nottingham Forest Sign Xaver Schlager

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Austria midfielder Xaver Schlager from RB Leipzig on a two-year contract, the Premier League club confirmed on Thursday.

The experienced midfielder becomes the first player signed under new manager Oliver Glasner, reuniting with his fellow Austrian after the pair previously enjoyed a successful spell together at VfL Wolfsburg.

Speaking after completing the move, Xaver Schlager expressed his excitement about joining the club and its future ambitions.

“The club has big ambitions and so do I. I want to be back in European competitions, and we have a good chance of achieving that. It is the best feeling to play international football during the week, and I want to experience that again,” Schlager said in a statement.

The 28-year-old arrives after another solid campaign with RB Leipzig, where he made 30 appearances in all competitions, scored three goals and served as the club’s vice-captain.

On the international stage, Xaver Schlager remains a key figure for Austria. He started all four of his country’s matches at the World Cup and has earned 55 international caps, bringing valuable experience to Nottingham Forest’s midfield.

The move strengthens Nottingham Forest’s squad as the club looks to compete at a higher level and push for qualification for European football under Glasner’s leadership.
