The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed that it is investigating Assistant Inspector-General of Police Moshood Jimoh, who heads Zone 2 Command, following allegations made by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM). The Police investigation is being handled through the Force’s internal administrative process, while the related criminal case remains before a court.
In a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer CSP Ani Iniedu, the police said AIG Moshood Jimoh has been invited for questioning as part of an internal review. The Force also confirmed that VeryDarkMan has been asked to provide evidence to support the allegations he made.
According to the statement, the criminal matter referenced in the public discussion has already been investigated and is currently before a court of competent jurisdiction after receiving legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The police stressed that the matter is now sub judice, meaning only the judiciary has the authority to determine the outcome.
“The Force will not try this case in the media, nor will it allow its outcome to be shaped by public campaigns or commentary seeking to prejudge the officers or parties involved.”
The Police investigation into the administrative allegations is being conducted separately from the ongoing court proceedings. The Force confirmed that the Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning in connection with the claims.
The statement also disclosed that the Force CID in Abuja formally invited Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) to appear at its office on 30 July 2026.
The Nigeria Police Force said the actions demonstrate its commitment to investigating all credible allegations of misconduct through established accountability channels, including the Force CID, the Force Complaint Response Unit, and, where necessary, the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, regardless of the rank of those involved.
