Nigeria FMCG Giants Lift Profit Despite Flat Sales

Nigeria’s biggest FMCG manufacturers recorded a sharp rise in profits in the first half of 2026, despite almost unchanged revenue.

The ten quoted companies posted combined profit after tax (PAT) of N601.74 billion in H1’26, up about 35 per cent from N445.75 billion a year earlier. However, combined revenue rose by less than one per cent to N3.53 trillion from N3.51 trillion.

The companies include Nigerian Breweries, BUA Foods, Nestlé Nigeria, Dangote Sugar Refinery, International Breweries, Guinness Nigeria, Unilever Nigeria, Cadbury Nigeria, NASCON Allied Industries and Champion Breweries.

The results show how tighter cost control, better operating efficiency and lower financing pressures helped the FMCG sector protect profits despite inflation, high energy and logistics costs and foreign exchange volatility.

Nigerian Breweries led revenue generation at N803.68 billion, an 8.9 per cent increase, while PAT rose 5.1 per cent to N92.95 billion. BUA Foods followed with N765.12 billion in revenue, down 16.2 per cent, but its PAT climbed 12.4 per cent to N292.27 billion. The company alone contributed almost 49 per cent of total sector profit.

Nestlé Nigeria increased revenue by about 12 per cent to N650.7 billion, while PAT jumped 28 per cent to N64.77 billion. Dangote Sugar also returned to profit, recording N41.50 billion after a N24.27 billion loss in H1’25.

Guinness Nigeria and Cadbury Nigeria similarly moved from losses to profits, while Unilever, NASCON and Champion Breweries recorded higher earnings. International Breweries, however, saw PAT fall to N38.31 billion despite broadly stable revenue.

The FMCG sector also recorded stronger margins, with weighted average gross margin among six major companies rising to 39.9 per cent from 35 per cent.

Analysts said the FMCG sector is relying more on cost discipline and margin protection than strong consumer demand as purchasing power remains under pressure.
