At Egbu village in the Patigi local government area of Kwara State, a boat carrying at least 100 people, including a father and his four children, sank on Monday, leaving dozens of people dead, according to reports.

According to information obtained by Tribune Online, the tragedy resulted in the recovery of roughly 50 bodies, and the state’s whole local government region is said to have been in sorrow as a result.

Additionally, it was learned that the boat capsized after being unexpectedly overwhelmed by river waves and colliding with a tree, leaving many persons dead and others injured to varied degrees.

The victims were reportedly on their way home after a wedding in a nearby Egboti hamlet in Niger State.

According to sources in the area, the deceased traveled from Kpada village in Kwara State to Egboti village in Niger State to take part in the wedding ceremony.

The source claims that in the state’s Patigi local government district, 69 people from Egbu village, 36 from Gakpan village, and four from Kpada village lost their life.
