A new lawsuit has been filed in Abuja’s Court of Appeal to prevent Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu from taking office on May 29, 2023.

A presidential contender for the 2019 presidential election, Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru, and his political organization, the Hope Democratic organization (HDP), filed the lawsuit with the case number CA/CV/259/2023.

Owuru asserted that he was declared the legal winner of the 2019 presidential election and is, therefore, opposed to the installation of Tinubu or anyone else as Buhari’s successor on the grounds that he was declared the legal winner of the election and has not carried out the legal requirements for his tenure.

The HDP candidate further argued that since the Supreme Court has not ruled on his appeal from 2019 in which he contested the alleged announcement of Buhari as the election victor, the president has been usurping his tenure of office.
