The Abia State Government has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Blue Giraffe Development Ltd to establish 20 smart schools across the state, marking a significant step towards digitalizing education.
At a brief ceremony in Umuahia, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Goodluck Ubochi, highlighted the project’s features, which include interactive learning systems, computerized boards, high-speed internet connectivity, and solar-powered electricity.
The initiative designates one smart school in each of Abia’s 17 local government areas, with the remaining three located in the Abia North, Abia South, and Abia Central senatorial districts.
The rollout will occur in phases: nine schools are expected to be completed by September or October, followed by additional schools by the fourth quarter of the year, and the last set by the first quarter of next year. Commissioner Ubochi emphasized that this is only the beginning, with the potential for all schools in Abia to become smart schools over time.
Ubochi praised Governor Alex Otti for his dedication to advancing education in the state, aiming to equip Abia’s children with the skills to compete globally.
Orieji Okwara-Emele, Managing Director of Blue Giraffe, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transforming education in Abia to meet international standards.
