Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said on Wednesday that the administration’s good works have earned it the trust of the people who benefit from its investments in road infrastructure, healthcare, education, safety nets, and the expansion of the local economy.

When a team from Vanguard Newspapers presented him with the official notification of his nomination as Vanguard’s Governor of the Year 2022 for purposeful leadership, the Governor was speaking in Ilorin, the state capital.

“We have remained focused on the things that matter to the largest majority of the people of Kwara State. We have achieved milestones that everyone can attest to, whether in education, the health sector, the provision of potable water, or access roads. Our indices are available. “What we do is visible and beneficial to the public,” the Governor stated.

The Governor recalled the terrible situation in basic and tertiary education, the public water system, and the appalling health-care indicators he encountered in 2019, saying he is pleased to have turned the situation around positively in less than four years.

He stated that much work remains to be done to consolidate the gains of the previous three years, particularly in terms of laying solid foundations for economic growth and redefining governance as a people-focused enterprise.

The Governor also expressed gratitude to the Vanguard Newspaper for the honor of receiving the prized award, stating that he would dedicate it to the people of the state who continue to believe in him and offer their support at various times.

The board of editors, led by Mr. Eze Anaba, Editor of Vanguard (Daily) and Mr. Onochie Anibeze, Editor of Saturday Vanguard, were impressed not only by the Governor’s physical development and achievements in key sectors such as education, but also by the feedback they have received since arriving in town.

The team stated that what they observed in Ilorin, from the airport to the presidential lodge where they met the governor, clearly demonstrated a discerning mind, symptoms of the current administration’s developmental impacts.

“Your administration’s interventions in key sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, industrialization, agriculture, and workers’ welfare have brought governance to the most remote parts of Kwara,” the newspaper wrote.

The paper also stated that there has been a significant improvement in the water sector and praised the Governor for leading his colleagues in gender mainstreaming and vulnerable group empowerment.

The team also observed the governor’s robust intellectual narrations about arts of governance that truly work for the people, which distinguished him from many of his peers.
