Former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Silas Agara, has officially declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Agara’s declaration comes shortly after he resigned from his position as Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE). His move sets up a potential political contest, as the current governor, Abdullahi Sule, is also expected to join the race for the same senatorial seat after completing his tenure next year.

Speaking at the APC State Working Committee meeting held at the party secretariat in Lafia, Agara said his decision followed wide consultations with political allies and supporters across the senatorial district.

He explained that his return to frontline politics was driven by what he described as a call from his constituents. He also appealed for fairness in the party’s internal processes ahead of the primaries.

“I have embarked on a journey I will call a Christian missionary journey to make my humble contribution to the growth and development of this state,” Agara said.

He added that stepping down from his federal appointment was a deliberate decision made to respond to the needs of his people and contribute meaningfully to the state’s political development.

“For me, Silas Agara, I am not competing with anyone for a stage. The stage is large enough for all of us to be able to show and to prove our worth,” he said.

Agara also urged the APC leadership in the state to ensure transparency and fairness in the conduct of party primaries, stressing that all aspirants must be given equal opportunity.

In response, APC State Chairman Dr. Aliyu Bello praised Agara’s decision, describing it as a bold step that reflects commitment to public service. He assured all aspirants that the party would conduct free, fair, and credible primaries in line with its guidelines.

The development is already shaping early political dynamics in Nasarawa North, with attention now shifting to how the APC will manage what is expected to be a competitive internal contest.
