Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has stepped away from Nigeria’s camp following the team’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The development was confirmed via an update on the Super Eagles’ official X account, which disclosed that Adams was granted permission to attend to a family emergency.
According to the statement, the Sevilla forward departed camp to be with his mother, who was hospitalised on Sunday. The team expressed solidarity with the striker, offering prayers and well wishes for her speedy recovery.
Despite receiving the distressing news ahead of the knockout encounter, Adams featured from the start against the Mambas and capped Nigeria’s dominant display by scoring the final goal of the match.
Uncertainty now surrounds his availability for Nigeria’s quarter-final fixture on Saturday, where the Super Eagles will face either DR Congo or Algeria.
