Fatima Atiku Abubakar, first daughter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), strengthening the party’s growing opposition bloc ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Adamawa State Commissioner for Health joined the ADC on Monday in Abuja, where she completed her registration and collected her party membership card at her ward in the Wuse area of the Federal Capital Territory.

Fatima, a medical professional turned politician, was received by the FCT Chairman of the ADC, Chief Clement Oba Ehigiator, alongside the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairman of the party and other key stakeholders.

Expressing enthusiasm over her new political home, she said she was pleased to align with the ADC, a party currently hosting a coalition of opposition leaders strategising to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
